Modern Embroidery

Hi there!

I’m Elise Chu Miow Lin (or Elise Cml) and I’m a textile artist, embroiderer et illustrator. My work explores memory and imagination. Thread gives life to embroidered portraits and landscapes.

My French and Mauritian heritages are at the heart of my inspiration. I draw images, memories, sensations that I transcribe through embroidery. My attachment to family stories and roots is also found in my embroidered portraits, which reinvent imaginary figures, ancestors or familiar faces.

Embroidery has taken an essential place in my life when I lived in Japan for a year. There, I started to experiment and see this art as a means of expression in its own. My long walks in the streets of Tokyo, my travels across the country and my immersion in a culture where crafts are deeply respected have shaped my gaze. Since then, I have been working mainly in small format, in the embroidery hoop, an intimate framework that invites contemplation.

Beyond my personal practice, transmission is very important for me. I teach workshops where I share my approach to embroidery. These moments go far beyond just the technique, they are spaces of exchange and creativity, where everyone brings their sensitivity. They nourish my work and remind me why I love what I do.

Welcome to my stitched world!
